I have always been a fan of ASUS boards, Everybody has there own opinion about a board.
I have never had an issue with the older boards to the new ones. They have been solid. The prices can vary from board to board depending on how many RAM slots or the processor it takes, and if the board has on board video or HIGH Def Audio. Some board even have HDMI output.
well there are new motherboards out every few months so hard to give just 1 exact motherboard but for most upgrabeablity then you would be going to the highest scale.
Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Core i7 1366 Support, 6400MHz FSB, Triple Channel DDR3 Support, 6x SATA, RAID, 8x USB2.0, FireWire, 7.1 HD Audio, Crossfire/SLI Support, Silent Heatpipe, Dual Gigabit LAN.
that board will be anything from +£300 or over $400
There is no such thing as the "best" motherboard. Different motherboards fit different needs. What is best for someone, might not be best for you and wise versa. I am going to assume that you are buying this for gaming so here are a few of the higher end mobos:

These have just about all the bells and whistles a gamer might want, but will fulfill all the requirements of non gamers as well. Please keep in mind that most people simply don’t need such expencive motherboards and can get away with a lot less while still being able to run ALL modern games and programs at highest/full settings. Make sure you do your homework prior to any purchase – you don’t want to end up with a very expencive piece of hardware that you will never use to it’s fullest potential. That is off course, unless you are buying solely for bragging rights.
