How do I figure out what bios settings are right for my computer?
| January 2, 2010 | Posted by computer accessory under BIOS |
I changed my bios back to default settings by mistake while trying to get my computer to boot from the Dvd. I was having a disk read error and trying to do a system restore. Now, my computer will not make it through the restore disk, but goes to a stop error. Does any one have any advice?

try setting the Boot Order so that CD/DVD is at the top so that it boots from the restore disk
it sounds like it’s currently trying to boot from the hard drive first
if you do managed to get it working again, backup all your important files to DVD or external hard drive because it sounds like your hard drive may be failing

You could open the case and do one of two things in the motherboard:
Clear the CMOS jumper
Remove the motherboard battery for a minute and then put it back in
This will reset the motherboard to the factory settings
Or…
In BIOS, see if there is a setting for "Optimum Configuration" or "High Performance Configuration" and select one of those two. Either way, you have options.
What probably happened is you changed the boot order of your drives. Check out how to change the boot order in BIOS and then make sure the right hard drive is selected to boot up. If a bad drive is selected as first boot, it may get hung up on that.
You may have a bad hard drive. In which case, you’ll need to remove it for your computer to boot up properly.
