The provision at the center of the suit is part of Mr. Hurd’s severance package from H-P, which could be worth more than $35 million depending on H-P’s stock price. Under the provision Mr. Hurd agreed to a 24-month confidentiality agreement, which prevents him from disclosing sensitive information related to H-P. The agreement doesn’t contain a noncompete clause.

Hurd’s arrival might be a sign that Oracle is not done shopping yet. Stuart Williams, director of software research with Technology Business Research in Hampton, N.H., said that he would not be surprised if Oracle soon looked to buy a storage company.
“This clearly signals Oracle wanted someone with demonstrated experience in transforming hardware businesses,” he said. “Hurd brings with him a lot of investor goodwill from his performance at HP. He has closed several large acquisitions, and that speaks volumes about where Oracle might be going in the future.”
Ajay Kasargod, who follows Oracle for brokerage Morgan Keegan & Co., said in a research note that Hurd’s move to Oracle “strengthens the company’s ability to focus on the growth of [its] systems business, primarily servers and storage, that it acquired as part of the Sun Microsystems acquisition” in January.
“In the end, who better to help build the Sun business than Mark Hurd, who prior to Oracle ran the largest hardware technology company in the market,” Kasargod said.

Kia Soul and Kia Sorento models produced between Sep 7, 2009 and Jul 30, 2010 fall under the purview of the recall and it will affect more than 35,000 of their cars.

Owners of the affected Kia models will be notified to bring their cars to their local dealerships who will replace the wiring harnesses for the lighting systems free of charge.

Any signs of EU disunity or discord could trigger another bout of investor unease. That could lead to market borrowing costs spiking again, which would government financial troubles even worse.
The issue is expected to be discussed further by finance ministers at an informal meeting later this month, and Brussels will then set out “policy orientations” ahead of a European Council meeting in October.

Researchers collected hair samples of heart attack victims admitted to the Meir Medical Centre in Kfar-Saba, Israel and analyzed them for stress hormone levels.

They were able to identify those men under stress by simply measuring the level of cortisol in their hair samples.

Gideon Koren, a professor at the University of Western Ontario, took hair samples from 120 men and measured cortisol levels in the 1.2 inches of hair closest to the scalp. That’s about three months worth of growth.

“Stress is a serious part of modern life affecting many areas of health and life,” says Dr. Koren. “This study has implications for research and for practice, as stress can be managed with lifestyle changes and psychotherapy.”

The finding, published in the journal Stress, could pave the way for a noninvasive test that lets doctors know when a patient is suddenly a heart attack waiting to happen.

The attack in the capital on Sunday turned into a 2 1/2-hour gun battle as soldiers tried to root out two men in explosive vests who had slipped into the old Ministry of Defense building where Iraqi soldiers and a small group of American soldiers are housed, Iraqi forces at the scene said.

An apology is a good first step but Mayweather may need to make some kind of additional overture to show how sorry he is for his negative video.
