Do I need speakers or headphones to use an external sound card?
| March 23, 2011 | Posted by computer accessory under Sound Card |
I need a new sound card, and yes i have checked everything to make sure, and I am planning on buying an external usb sound card. So my question is, do i need speakers or headphones for the sound card to work?

No, you don’t. However, you won’t hear any sound.
You don’t need speakers or headphones to use any sound card, but you need em’ to hear something! Some rare external cards have a built in piezo speaker so it’s possible you don’t need it, some other cards make it possible (need compatible motherboard) to plug the "pc speaker" into the sound card, it means you won’t need anything else and the sound will come out from the little tweaker that "beeps" when you start your computer. Of course, theses speakers are basic, offer no bass and no fidelity whatsoever. So unless you have a special sound card needed only to transfer or reroute audio to another device (mixing board for example), you will need headphones or speakers!
Hope this helps!
